GENERAL INFO
The DefLeppard.com board, or forum, is a message board set up for Def Leppard fans to talk to various topics related to Def Leppard (such as releases, concerts, videos, etc.). It creates an interactive community of Def Leppard fans, which is open 24 hours a day, and everything is categorized in 9 topics.
The board has 9 different topics, 8 of which can be used by the users. They are;
- ADMINISTRATOR AREA
Annoucements and site news - Important information about the message board and web site.
- DEF LEPPARD DISCUSSIONS
- The music - The place to discuss the band's official releases.
- Live / on tour - Set lists, stage shows, tour dates..... Talk about the band's live shows here!
- Your links - Got a site you want to share? Spotted some Leppard on the web? Tell here.
- Anything else - If your thread doesn't fit in any of the topics below, post it here.
- Web site comments - For all your ideas, comments, questions, etc. regarding DEFLEPPARD.com.
- THE PLAYGROUND
- Suite 625 - For any and all discussions NOT related to Def Leppard.
- Games & chats - Game threads and chat threads should be posted here.
- Test site - Test all your settings, board features, etc. No rules, just fool around!
It speaks for itself that you are expected to post your messages in the appropriate topics, so for example, do not post your questions about concert tickets in the YOUR LINKS-topic. If you DO post in the wrong topic, your message may be moved to the appropriate topic without further notice.
If you only want to READ messages posted on the forum, you don't have to be registered. However, if you want to write new messages or reply to existing threads, you will have to become a registered member.

Visit the board and click on the REGISTER-link at the top of the screen (or go to this page directly) and follow the instructions. For validation purposes, you have to enter a valid, active email address. After submitting your registration, you will receive an email with your username and password, and an activation link. You have to follow the link before you will be able to use your account. If you enter a wrong email address during registration, you will NOT receive the activation link and so you can't activate your account.
If, after a few minutes, you still haven't received the activation email and you are 100% sure you entered the correct email address, you can request a new activation email at this page. Enter your username and your email address and you should receive a new activation email, containing a link you have to follow in order to be able to use that account.
If you want to change your personal info at a later time, log in to the board and click the PROFILE-link at the top of the screen.

You will then receive a new (random) password, and a link you have to follow in order to be able to use that password. After this, you can change the password again in your profile page.
Please note that you have to enter both your username the matching email address. If you do not remember one or the other, we can NOT retrieve them for you and you will have to re-register for a new account, with a new username and different email address.

RULES TO FOLLOW
The following rules are very important. They are the "law" of the forum and have to be respected at all times. You are very welcome to disagree with them, you are NOT welcome to break them just because you happen to think they are too strict. Break a rule and you're wrong, it's that simple.
- Do not post messages that infringe any third party's copyright, trademark, trade secret or other proprietary rights or rights of publicity or privacy. This includes links or instructions to access illegal material, such as MP3s or (MP3-)filesharing systems. Also do not ASK for such material.
- Do not post messages that DEFLEPPARD.com considers to be disruptive, unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, hateful, racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable, or in violation of ANY law.
- Do not post messages that impersonate or claim the identity of any other person.
- Do not post messages that are for commercial purposes or are intended to solicit a person to buy any goods, including spam, requests for charity (inc. donations), chain letters, pyramid schemes, or any other form of solicitation.
- Do not post messages with the main purpose of getting a negative reaction ("trolling").
These rules above are the most important ones. If you break those rules, expect consequences, in one form or the other.

Whereas the above rules about what you can and can't do on the board, the following rules are more about what you should and shouldn't do.
- Don't post off-topic. Read the topic title and the description and stick to it. Do not use subject lines that do not describe the content (such as 'Read this now!'.)
- Unless you are actually trying to let people know that you're screaming, DO NOT USE ALL CAPS IN EITHER YOUR SUBJECT OR MESSAGE.
- Do not post messages which are intended for just one person. Messages like "John email me!!!" are totally uninteresting for those who are not John.
- Do not post like crazy, for the sole reason to get your post count (the number of posts you have, displayed in your profile) up. Let go of the idea that the higher your post count is, the more important you are.
- Threads go up in the list as soon as a post is added to it. "Bumping" (adding a message for the sole reason to get the thread high in the list again) is not allowed.

There are some subjects that are not 'wrong' by themselves, but have proven to be the source of trouble, fights and flame wars on many Def Leppard boards and mailing lists. These topics are:
- politics
- religion
- "(Def Leppard with) Vivian is better/worse than (Def Leppard with) Steve"
- lusting
- the band members' private lives

The catch is that if you post in a normal, mature way, you already follow most of the rules automatically. It might take you even more time to deliberately break the rules than to follow them! All we ask is to read through this page once and you should have a good idea on what to do and what you shouldn't do. We know very well that people make mistakes sometimes and it's impossible to expect everyone to show perfectly good behavior on the board. We won't revoke your posting privileges for making a mistake every now and then.
However, if you just generally act like a jerk/bitch, if you show clear disrespect to the board staff/board rules, or if you signed up just so you could complain about how the band was so much better 20 years ago and then see what happens (the so-called "hit and run" members), don't expect us to welcome you with open arms. If you want to voice an unpopular opinion, you'll have to deserve it first.

USING THE BOARD
When you access the board, you will be presented with a main menu, listing all areas and topics (see question 1.) Click on any topic (such as ON TOUR or ANYTHING ELSE) to go to a listing of all messages posted in that particular topic. Click on any message subject to read the actual message. The threads are displayed in descending order (newest thread at the top of the screen), and the messages in a thread are displayed in ascending order (newest message at the bottom of the screen). However, if you want to have the newest message at the top of the screen, you can do this by selecting the dropdown-button at the bottom of the page. You can always return to the main page of the board by clicking on the Def Leppard logo or the HOME-link at the top of the screen.

First, make sure that there isn't a thread about your topic already (use the SEARCH-function or just look around.) You're positive that whatever you want to talk about hasn't been addressed yet? Then make sure that you're logged in. Then, go to the section you want to post your message in.
To post a new message, click on the START NEW THREAD-link. In the next screen, you have to enter a subject for your message (please use a clear description, no 'READ THIS!' or 'I HAVE A QUESTION'-kind of subjects that are way too generic and do not describe the actual message), and type the message in the MESSAGE BODY-textbox. You can preview your message before you post it (and make changes, if necessary), or post it directly.
Your new message can also contain a poll. Under the MESSAGE BODY-textbox you can enter your poll question, and then enter the options people can choose from. You have to hit the ADD OPTION-button every single time you enter an option. Enter the number of days you want the poll to run, and then preview or post your message.
To add a message to an existing thread, follow these instructions. When the original thread (the one you want to reply to or join) is on your screen, click on the POST REPLY-link at the top of the thread or bottom of the page. In the following screen, you can enter a reply just like a new message (see previous question). If you want to reply to a specific (part of a) message, use the QUOTE & REPLY-link, at the top right of each message.
[ CLOSE ]
To edit a message, open the original message you wrote (in other words, just get it on your screen). At the top right of the message itself, click on the MODIFY POST-link. In the next screen, you can edit your original subject, message text or poll options as if it was a new message. Click on the SUBMIT-button when you're done. You can change your own messages as often as you like.
To delete a message, open the original message you wrote (in other words, just get it on your screen). At the top right of the message itself, click on the DELETE POST-link (if you do not see that link, you are not logged in with the account that posted the actual message). When a confirmation screen appears, click 'YES' to confirm, and your post will be deleted. Of course, you can only delete messages posted by yourself, and note that you can not delete a message anymore once it has received replies.

Most standard "BBcode" tags are allowed: [b], [i], [u], [color], and so on. For a list of all codes and how to use them in your message, see this guide. Feel free to test and try all this in the TEST SITE-section on the board. It's what it's for!

By default, your signature message will be added at the bottom of each message you post. You can create, view, edit or delete your signature in your profile; to edit your profile, click on the link PROFILE-link at the top of the page (or go to this page). You can use formatting in your signature, but you can not use images.

An avatar is a small image that is displayed under the name of the author in someone's message, as another way to personalize your posts. To make sure your avatar is visible in your posts, click on the PROFILE-link at the top of the page to enter your profile screen. Scroll down to the AVATAR-bit and enter the URL of the image you want to use as your avatar. Select SUBMIT to confirm the changes in your profile.
NOTE: there are some restrictions for your avatar image!
- The URL you enter HAS to end with .JPG, .GIF or .PNG. Hence, an URL such as http://www.photobucket.com/image.gif?32525bh5272b7557 will not be accepted.
- The dimensions of the image should be smaller than 65x65 pixels.
- The file size of the image should not exceed 15kb.
Some extra tips for your avatar image. If you have a large image and you want to resize it to a small, avatar-sized image (but you don't have any image editing software), go to this page to download a free application you can use to resize your pictures to avatar-sized images.
If you don't have your own web site where you can store your avatar image, you can use free image hosting sites (such as Photobucket). However, keep in mind that those sites may delete your image after a certain period of time, so we recommend that you host your avatar image on your own site, if you can.
Sorry, DefLeppard.com does not offer a standard set of avatars, nor a place to host your images.

OTHER THINGS
By far the Most Common Mistake (mostly) new members make, is starting a new thread for a topic that already HAS a thread. Whether it's laziness to check if there already is a thread for it, or ignorance that there is such a rule in the first place, or maybe thinking that posting a message in the existing thread will not get the same attention as when it's a seperate thread, or perhaps thinking that the topic is SO COOL that it simply deserves more than one thread.....we don't really care what the exact reason is. If you start a new thread for something that easily fits in an already existing thread, we'll lock it.

Well, tough. You're a guest on the band's board, and even though you are welcome to disagree, we do not have much tolerance for those who disrespect the rules or the moderators of this place that welcomes you. If you don't plan on following the rules, please don't post -- or else accept the fact that we will enforce the rules as we deem necessary to keep this place organized.
[ CLOSE ]
We can't possibly see and review every single post or thread, so yes, sometimes we don't see people break the rules or misbehave. Or maybe we just give them the benefit of the doubt and wait to see if it will happen again. Anyways, don't take it personally. We're not after you. We have better things to do than to single out people and try to make their experience on the board miserable.

Being younger than 16 years old. Offering (a way to obtain) illegal downloads. Crap on the band in your very first post after signing up. Posting spam.
