This weeks show Joe will be paying tribute to Trevor Bolder (David Bowie, Uriah Heep, Cybernauts) and Ray Manzarek (The Doors) and playing songs from them including The Cybernauts, The Doors, as well as Queen, New York Dolls, amongst others!
For those in the U.K. tune into Joe's weekly radio show on PlanetRock.com on Saturdays at 6pm (GMT) / 1pm (EST). For those listening outside the U.K. listen live from this site HERE
Legendary Bass Player Trevor Bolder (David Bowie, Uriah Heep, Cybernauts) passed away at 7.30pm UK time, Tuesday, May 22, he was 62 years young .....
I had the great pleasure of knowing Trevor for the best part of 30 years, he was one of my idols growing up, I got to know him when Uriah Heep opened for D.L. on the Pyromania tour in 1983 & we became firm friends. I stayed with him, he stayed with me & we recorded & toured together as The Cybernauts. For myself & Phil it's devastating because we were looking forward to finishing up some new Cybernauts recording pretty soon, that may now not happen, but our real thoughts right now are with his family.
Trevor was one of the good guys, I'm sure Mick Box & the guys in Heep feel the same way, we have lost a brother, a great bass player, a funny, funny man who lit up any room he walked into .... I guess now, him & Ronno have a bit of catching up to do ..... RIP my friend ..... - Joe

When he left Black Sabbath in early 1982 to form his own band, the late, great Ronnie James Dio took powerhouse Sabbath drummer, Vinny Appice with him. Ronnie knew that he wanted a European flavour to balance-out the band, so he asked his former Rainbow bandmate and Scottish native, bassist Jimmy Bain, to join him. In turn, Jimmy recommended a young Irish guitarist, Vivian Campbell, to complete the line-up. When the four of them met and played for the first time in a North London rehearsal room in September 1982, the magic was evident and the the classic Dio band line-up was born.
Between 1983 and 1985, in quick succession, that line-up wrote, recorded and toured the first three Dio albums. Widely considered to be the crown jewels of the Dio catalogue, Holy Diver, Last In Line and Sacred Heart went on to sell millions as the band, now reinforced by keyboard player Claude Schnell, played to audiences worldwide.
By 1985, however, trouble was brewing and the fabric of the band had started to unravel. Begining with Vivian Campbell’s firing during the Sacred Heart tour, one by one the other original band members left the fold and slowly the magic was lost.
30 years after the recording of Holy Diver, and without trying to replace the singular sound that was Ronnie’s voice, the original band have started playing the songs they created together again. Joined by the passionate, powerful and unique voice of vocalist Andy Freeman, Vivian Campbell, Vinny Appice, Jimmy Bain and Claude Schnell have united under the name of their classic album, Last In Line, to perform and tour their original songs again.
When any group of musicians write and record together, they create a sound that becomes uniquely theirs. Last In Line brings to life those early, classic Dio albums in a way that only they know how. In a way that only they can.

Vivian's favorite charity Create Now has received a Limited-Edition Washburn guitar that was donated by Jeff Magnuson and his wife Michelle. What makes this guitar REALLY special is that Create Now arranged for Jeff and Michelle to meet Vivian at the Hard Rock in Las Vegas so that Viv could get all five band members to autograph it. Viv then arranged to have the guitar shipped back to Los Angeles on the truck with all the Def Leppard equipment, and he personally delivered it to Create Now! Only ONE will have a guitar that was personally handled by Vivian and signed by all five band members.
Create Now is very grateful to Jeff & Michelle Magnuson, and of course Vivian Campbell, as well as Rick Savage, Joe Elliott, Rick Allen and Phil Collen. We really appreciate their support!

This week's show will be a two-hour special tribute to Mick Ronson (whom was David Bowie’s righthand man in the early 1970’s and went on to work with Roger Daltrey, John Mellencamp, Ian Hunter, and Bob Dylan), who passed away 20 years ago Monday, 29 April. The special will feature music and stories by and about the late, great Mick Ronson - be sure to tune in!
