Remembering Steve Clark

04/23/2014 - 12:49

On this day 23 April in 1960, Def Leppard co-founding guitarist Steve Clark was born in Sheffield (UK). Steve would have been 54 today.  Gone but never forgotten!

"This tribute video to Steve took me back to the days when he was THE rock star, he owned the stage. I was lucky to have known him, worked with him, but most of all we were great friends and I was proud to be taking care of his guitars. He was a diamond character, I will always remember him for the unabashed respect/love of life we shared. We all miss you pal” - Malvin Mortimer (Friend & Tour Manager)

”The new album The Further Adventures of… picks up where the live DVD left off and features the driving groove of album opener - and first single - “Rock And Roll Queen”.  The collection also includes the good time of rock-n-roll tune “One Of The Boys,” and ballad “The Journey,” plus the drum heavy song “Violence.” This LP is set to bring out a rich and much loved seam of British songwriting to a whole new audience. The album was produced by Joe Elliott with co-production by Ronan McHugh. The album was recorded at Joe Elliott’s own studio Joe’s Garage.

Joe Elliott says, “These songs make up a huge portion of who I am and I feel incredibly privileged to have been able to record them and hopefully give them a new lease of life, which, quite frankly, is long overdue.”

Morgan Fisher (keyboardist Mott The Hoople 1973/1974 and also Mott and British Lions) expresses, "It's like Joe and the boys have taken some vintage films and slapped them onto a big, bright Technicolor screen. A great, in-your-face new way to experience some of Mott's finest songs!"

Ian Hunter says, “I’m blown away by these recordings. The solo by Paul Guerin on ‘The Journey’ is one of the best I’ve heard. These songs really suit Joe’s voice also. It’s a whole different side to him and the project gets my approval!”

After supporting Mott The Hoople in 2009, Down ‘n’ Outz played the main stage of inaugural High Voltage festival at Victoria Park, London during the Summer of 2010. Following this memorable performance, they toured the UK as main support to Paul Rogers in 2011. The band is currently working on live dates for 2014/2015.

Discussing the track selection process for his new Down 'n' Outz album this time around, Elliott says: "I thought, 'what's my desert island playlist of Mott stuff?' I didn't want to do Roll Away The Stone, All The Young Dudes... the obvious ones. I wanted to go deeper and make it a proper record."  Read the interview HERE

Become a Heroes Tour Roadie for Def Leppard. Apply Now at Military.com

DEF LEPPARD & KISS announce their commitment to hire two veterans as roadies for their 2014 summer tour as part of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation and Capital One’s Hiring 500,000 Heroes campaign. The bands made their hiring announcement live today on the NBC Today Show in New York after deciding jointly to dedicate their upcoming summer tour to the military community. Following a nationwide search, two veterans will be chosen to support the bands’ production team on the 42-city North American tour.

This will be the second time KISS has carried out a nationwide search for a veteran roadie. Two years ago, Army veteran and longtime KISS fan Paul Jordan was chosen to join a summer tour after a review of 1,900 applications sent in from coast to coast. He went on to tour 44 cities with the band, helping with the set up and breakdown at each stop.

Joe Elliott states “having our own wounded warrior in Rick Allen, we’ve always had a close tie with the military. So for us to carry on, further our contribution by giving a little back, and hopefully help fulfill dream or two, we’re more than happy to do so.”

"It is our privilege to draw attention to the obligation we all have to the brave men and women who volunteer to risk their own lives to protect the liberties and freedom that we all take for granted. We should all jump at any opportunity to provide any assistance needed by our warriors. Heroes deserve jobs!" said Paul Stanley

Both groups have agreed to donate $2 of every ticket sold to various military nonprofits, including Hiring Our Heroes, the USO, Project Resiliency/The Raven Drum Foundation, Augusta Warrior Project, and Wounded Warrior Project

Veterans who wish to apply for the positions can go to Military.com/Heroes for more information. All applications must be received by Friday, May 9th at 11:59 p.m. Military.com will work with KISS and Def Leppard to select the final two veterans.
