In issue 248 of Classic Rock, they talk to all five members of Def Leppard about all things Def Leppard. About 40 years of triumph and tragedy, from their early days in Sheffield to the kind of global domination very few bands have been able to match: only The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Van Halen have also managed to sell more than 10 million copies of two different albums in the US.

But what of the band members’ individual favourites? We asked the question:

Watch Def Leppard Frontman Joe Elliott Literally Pour Some Sugar on Various Objects

To promote Def Leppards’ upcoming summer tour, the band’s frontman Joe Elliott took one of their most famous songs quite literally in a new video.

“Today, as always, I’ll invite you to step inside and walk this way as we explore the hot, sticky sweet wonders of sugar,” Elliott says.

He then pulls out a small chocolate cupcake and places it on the table in front of him. “Everybody loves cake. It looks pretty good but it could be better,” he says. “I think it’s time to pour some sugar.”

40 years of rock’s greatest underdogs… Classic Rock Cover

Untold stories, unseen photos and unsung heroes, from the band who took on the world and won

Do ya wanna get rocked? Well, we figure the chances are pretty good. And what better band to celebrate than the one who brought that particular phrase to the forefront of our collective consciousness. Yep, this month we’re all about the mighty Def Leppard, a band who have enjoyed more triumph and weathered more adversity than most over their now four decades of existence. We talk to Joe, Sav, Rick, Phil and Viv about their incredible ‘You honestly couldn’t make this stuff up if you tried’ history.

Elsewhere, we check in with the rejuvenated Stone Temple Pilots and their new singer; spend some time getting to know the men of The Temperance Movement; take a look at the huge talent but tragically short life of Sandy Denny (who died 40 years ago this month); try to get inside the mind of Maynard James Keenan and Billy Howerdel as they relaunch A Perfect Circle; drag the protagonists of the forthcoming Britrock Must Die! tour to the scene of past crimes; and so much more.

It’s on sale now here.
